Q: HOW MANY ENDANGERED SPECIES ARE THERE?

A: There are almost 2,000 officially acknowledged species of animals and plants threatened with extinction throughout the world. There are also many ecosystems – such as wetlands and forests – that are being degraded and destroyed according to IUCN-The World Conservation Union [a.k.a. The Union]. The Union is the world's largest conservation network.

Q. WHAT IS THE MOST ENDANGERED ANIMAL SPECIES IN THE WORLD?

A. According to The Union it is impossible to make this determination or even list a top ten. "Critically Endangered" is the highest threatened category. All species assessed at this level face an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild unless the pressures on them are relieved.

Q: HOW IS THAT NAME PRONOUNCED?

A: It is pronounced " e • KED • eks." The name is derived from taking the first two letters from each word of the company's mantra: "Ecological Education and Excitement." Before hearing the correct pronunciation, EcEdEx is almost guaranteed to be mispronounced.

Q: ONE OF THE LAST THINGS THE TERM "LIVE WILD" MAKES ME THINK IS WILDLIFE. WHY USE IT?

A: Actually, LIVE WILD is a variation of the term "wildlife." "LIFE WILD" just didn't sound as catchy.

Q: WHY WAS THE LIVE WILD CONCEPT CREATED?

A: As listed in the "Our Story" section, a particular little kid liked watching nature shows with his dad and a seed was planted. Years later, that now big kid combined his talents, outgoing personality and a deep fondness for wildlife to create LIVE WILD. It is proof positive that one person can make a difference.

Q: WHAT IS THE COMPANY'S MISSION?

A: Our mission is to make wildlife relevant to teens and young adults and offer inspiration for contributions that help preserve wildlife. Said contributions do not necessarily have to be monetary. For example, you can contribute by planting a tree, joining a wildlife organization, or studying to becoming a microbiologist. We just want to inspire contributions in whatever manner you see fit.

Q: IS EcEdEx AN ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATION?

A: Not in the traditional sense. Actually, we are a wildlife awareness company, not directly competing with the traditional organizations like the World Wildlife Fund and Defenders of Wildlife. We applaud and support their efforts, as well as the efforts of other wildlife protectors, such as zoos, aquariums and the many divisions of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Q: WHAT IS "GET/GIVE"?

A: 10% of all our net profits are donated to help wildlife preservation, whether it is given to wildlife organizations or helps fund programs EcEdEx has initiated to help protect wildlife and their habitats. It is called GET/GIVE, because when you purchase LIVE WILD merchandise you get a t-shirt, for example, and give to helping endangered whales.
